Frequently asked questions
Does my video leave my computer?
No. Transcription, translation and rendering all happen on your machine. The only exception is a cloud provider you pick yourself with your own API key — and the app tells you clearly, in that moment, that the data will be sent out.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the speech model and any Argos language packs are downloaded, transcription, offline translation and burn-in run without an internet connection. Pro needs a connection once, to activate your license key; after that the app checks the license about once a day when it is online, and Pro keeps working when it is not. A cloud provider you turn on yourself also needs a connection.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 64-bit and later, and macOS 12 Monterey and later with separate builds for Apple Silicon and Intel. There is no Linux build.
How good is the transcription?
It uses faster-whisper with four quality tiers — Fast, Balanced, Accurate and Best. On Windows the NVIDIA CUDA runtime downloads on first use, so a supported GPU is picked up automatically and runs roughly 5–10× faster than CPU. Without a GPU everything still works, just slower.
What does the one-time payment actually cover?
Buy Pro once and every Pro update is free for life. The one-time license has no renewal date and no update window that expires.
Can I pay monthly instead?
Yes. Pro is also $5.99 a month, with the same features on one computer. Cancel at any time from your account and Pro keeps working until the end of the month you paid for. The app needs to go online about once a month to pick up the renewal. Monthly payments are not refunded.
What do the cloud providers cost?
Nothing extra through us. DeepL, OpenAI, Claude and ElevenLabs are bring-your-own-key: you enter your own API key and pay that provider directly. Sablate is never in the middle and never resells their usage.
Can I move my license to another computer?
Yes. A license is active on one device at a time. Deactivate it in the app on the old machine, then activate it on the new one.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — 30 days, no questions, on the one-time license. If Sablate is not what you needed, contact us within 30 days for a full refund. A monthly plan is not refunded, but you can cancel it at any time and it is not charged again.
Can Sablate dub videos, clone voices or cut shorts?
No. Sablate does subtitles: transcription, translation, editing and burn-in. There is no dubbing or text-to-speech, no voice cloning, no automatic shorts or clips, no speaker diarization, and nothing is downloaded from YouTube or anywhere else — a job always starts from a file already on your disk. We would rather say that plainly than let you find out after paying.
