1. Introduction

Sablate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we safeguard it when you use our desktop application and website.

2. Information We Collect

Desktop Application

The Sablate desktop application processes your media locally. Transcription, translation and subtitle rendering all run on your own computer, and your audio and video files are never uploaded to us.

There is one exception, and it is always your choice: if you enable a cloud provider (OpenAI, ElevenLabs, DeepL or Claude) with your own API key, the relevant audio or text is sent directly from your machine to that provider under their terms. The application states this clearly before the request is made. Sablate is not a party to that transfer and never receives a copy.

To learn how the app is used and to fix problems, the app sends anonymous usage statistics:

  • A random identifier created the first time the app starts and stored only on your computer. It is not linked to your name, email address, license key or hardware ID.
  • The app's version, your operating system and its version, the processor type, how the app was installed (installer, portable or Mac), the app's language, your system's language, your plan (Free or Pro) and whether your computer has a graphics card the app can use for transcription.
  • Events, such as: the app was installed, updated or opened; a speech model was downloaded; a job was started or finished (only which engine and model it used, the spoken language, how many translation languages it has, how long the media was, how long the job took and, if it failed, the type of error); a translation layer was added; a subtitle style preset was chosen; subtitles were exported or a video was rendered (only the format and whether it carried the Free mark); a cloud provider key was saved or removed (only which provider, never the key); a Pro feature prompt was shown or used; a license activation succeeded or failed (as an error code); an error or crash occurred (only the kind of error and where in the app's own code it happened; after a graphics crash, also the graphics card's maker and driver version).

We never send your audio or video, transcripts, subtitles or translations, file names, folder paths, your custom vocabulary, API keys, your license key, or the text of error messages.

The statistics are processed by PostHog in the European Union and are used only to improve Sablate, which is our legitimate interest. They cannot be linked to your account. As with any connection over the internet, PostHog receives your IP address; it is not used to determine your location.

Website & License Management

When you sign in or purchase a license, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (optional, and only if you sign in with Google)
  • Payment information (processed by Polar.sh — we never see your card details)
  • A hardware ID (HWID) used to bind a Pro license to one device

We also record anonymous download events (platform, app version, browser user agent, referrer, language and a masked IP address with its last octet removed) so we can see how many people install the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Process license purchases and refunds
  • Verify license activations and deactivations
  • Email you your license key and important account messages
  • Provide customer support

4. Data Security

We apply appropriate security measures to protect your personal information. There are no passwords to leak: sign-in works through an emailed magic link or Google, and all data is transmitted over encrypted connections.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Polar.sh for payment processing
  • PostHog (European Union) for the desktop app's anonymous usage statistics
  • Google OAuth for sign-in (optional)
  • Gmail SMTP for transactional email

Cloud transcription and translation providers (OpenAI, ElevenLabs, DeepL, Anthropic) are only contacted when you enter your own API key and enable them, and that traffic goes from your machine directly to them.

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your data
